Start with the pallet, then the load, then the ground. 550mm models suit narrow aisles, containers and Euro pallets. 685mm heavy-duty models spread wider under a standard 1165mm Australian pallet. Long runs across a big floor suit the ride-on. Outside, on hardstand or with long stock, take a rough terrain model. It's the width across the outside of the two forks. 550mm forks fit both Australian CHEP pallets and Euro pallets, and turn in tighter aisles and containers. 685mm forks sit further apart, so a big, heavy Australian pallet rides flatter and more stable — which is why our heavy-duty machines are 685mm. The trade-off is that 685mm forks won't go into a Euro pallet. We hire both widths, so tell us what you're moving.

Our 550mm models will. A Euro pallet (1200 × 800mm) is entered from its short 800mm end, and once you allow for the pallet's outer blocks there's only about 600mm of room for the forks — enough for 550mm forks, not for 685mm. Our 550mm pallet jacks fit both Euro pallets and Australian CHEP pallets, so if you're unloading imported stock, or you're not sure what's on the truck, ask for a 550mm. Our 685mm machines are for heavy loads on Australian pallets.

The Australian standard pallet — the blue CHEP pallet you see everywhere — is 1165 × 1165mm, square. Every pallet jack we hire fits it, in both 550mm and 685mm fork widths. For heavy loads on these pallets the 685mm width is the more stable choice.

It's about fit, not strength. A 685mm pallet jack is wider than the gap between a Euro pallet's outer blocks, so the forks physically hit the wood before they can go in. A 550mm jack fits inside that gap, and also fits easily into the wider 1165mm Australian pallet — so the narrow jack goes into both, the wide one only into Australian pallets. The wide jack earns its place on heavy Australian pallets, where the extra fork spread keeps the load steadier.

On our CBD15 and CBD20 the difference is real: the lithium build weighs 175–180kg against 195–220kg for lead-acid, and turns in 1370mm instead of 1430mm (CBD15) or 1468mm (CBD20). Lithium also charges faster and needs no watering, so it suits daily multi-shift use. Lead-acid is a proven, lower-cost option for single-shift or lighter work. Depending on the battery fitted (24V/48V, lead-acid or lithium) a full charge comfortably covers a standard shift of continuous pallet handling. Opportunity-charge the lithium units on tea breaks if you're running back-to-back shifts.

Depends which one. The HELI models are built for smooth, hard warehouse and dock floors — they'll take light ramps and dock levellers, but not loose gravel or mud. The two JIALIFT A30 jacks are the rough terrain answer: rubber drive wheel, nylon entry rollers and 200mm of lift, rated to 5% gradeability laden and 8% unladen. Yes — the JIALIFT SL20GA-LI. It has a stand-on platform, so the operator rides rather than walks. At 5.5 km/h unladen it covers ground roughly 25% faster than a walk-behind, and over a full shift in a big shed or distribution centre that's the difference between a job being worth doing and not. 2000kg capacity, AC drive motor and electronic power steering. It needs more room than a walkie though — 2166mm turning radius against 1398mm.

It comes down to distance, not weight — both carry 2000kg. If you're working a dock, a container or tight aisles, take a walk-behind: they turn in half the space and fit where the ride-on won't. If your operator is walking long runs across a big floor all day, the ride-on pays for itself in a shift. Tell us the layout and how far each load travels and we'll pick it.

Yes — the JIALIFT A30 range. Standard electric pallet jacks are warehouse machines and struggle the moment they leave a smooth slab. The A30 has a rubber drive wheel and nylon entry rollers, 200mm of lift to clear uneven ground, and is rated to 5% gradeability laden. It's the one for yards, site compounds and rough hardstand.

That's what the JIALIFT A30-685×2000 is for — 2 metre forks and 2000kg capacity, so you can carry long stock, two pallets end to end, or bundles that would overhang standard 1150mm forks badly enough to be unsafe.

The JIALIFT A30 at 3000kg. The HELI warehouse machines top out at 2000kg, so if you're moving heavy palletised stock, machinery or full drums, the A30 is the one to ask for.

No. A High Risk Work Licence for forklifts (class LF) applies to forklift trucks, and class LO to order-picking forklifts. A pedestrian-operated, walk-behind electric pallet truck like ours needs neither. You do need to be trained and competent, and your workplace needs to have assessed the task — check your site's rules and SafeWork NSW guidance.

The 550mm models are the ones to ask for. At 550mm over the forks they'll work comfortably inside a standard container and down narrow racking aisles, where the 685mm units are better suited to open warehouse floors and wider pallets. Tell us where it's working and we'll send the right width.

Comfortably a normal shift for typical warehouse or delivery work. The lithium units recharge much faster and can be topped up during breaks without damaging the battery, which is why they suit multi-shift operations; lead-acid is the lower-cost option for single-shift work. A charger comes with the machine.
